Kunshan is located in the Southern Jiangsu Plain of the Yangtze River Delta, midway between the metropolises of Shanghai and Suzhou.
Over the last 20 years the traditionally agricultural region has been transformed into one of the countries leading industrialised centres, attracting investment from many national and international interests.
UAP Studio developed an integrated artwork program designed to illuminate Kunshan as a place of cultural standing within the region. The program includes this iconic artwork for the Zheng Yang Bridge, the major vehicular and pedestrian river crossing located centrally within Kunshan’s redeveloped riverfront precinct.
The riverside artworks resemble a series of fishing nets being cast from the bridge. The ‘nets’ will be captured by curved vertical elements to create arbor like structures. The diamond pattern of the weave will be exaggerated to emphasise the visual rhythm of surfaces.
